Our Story

Our History

From a small gathering of dedicated individuals to a thriving congregation — the story of Woodhaven over more than two decades.

A Congregation Built on Faithfulness

The Woodhaven Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses did not arrive fully formed. Like every enduring community, it grew slowly and steadily — shaped by the dedication, sacrifices, and faithfulness of the individuals who committed themselves to it, year after year.

Our story is one of ordinary people doing extraordinary things together: building a place of worship, raising families in Scriptural values, reaching out to their neighbours, and holding fast to their beliefs through every season of life.

Today, the Woodhaven Congregation stands as a well-established, registered charitable organisation in Spruce Grove, Alberta — a testament to what a community can become when it is rooted in love and purpose.

Our Journey Through the Years

Key moments in the life of the Woodhaven Congregation from its earliest days to the present.

Late 1990s

The First Gatherings

A small group of Jehovah's Witnesses living in the Spruce Grove and Woodhaven area began meeting together for Bible study and worship, gathering in homes and rented spaces. Their numbers were few, but their commitment was deep.

Early 2000s

Congregation Formally Established

As the congregation grew in size and stability, it was formally organised as the Woodhaven Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses — taking its name from the neighbourhood that had become its home. A body of elders was appointed to provide loving spiritual oversight.

Mid 2000s

Kingdom Hall Construction

The congregation undertook the construction of a dedicated Kingdom Hall at 8 Greenwood Crescent, Spruce Grove. True to Jehovah's Witness tradition, the building was constructed primarily by volunteer labour from congregation members — a powerful expression of community.

2008–2012

Growth and Expanded Programmes

A period of steady membership growth brought new families, young people, and individuals to the congregation. New programmes were launched to serve the growing needs of members and the wider community, including dedicated youth activities and expanded outreach.

2015

Charitable Registration

The Woodhaven Congregation was registered as a formal charitable organisation with the Canada Revenue Agency (Registry ID: 765681515RR0001), formalising its commitment to transparent, accountable community service.

2018–2020

Kingdom Hall Renovations

The congregation invested in significant renovations to the Kingdom Hall, improving accessibility for members with disabilities, upgrading audiovisual systems, and creating a more welcoming environment for visitors and community guests.

2020–2022

Resilience Through Challenging Times

Like congregations worldwide, Woodhaven adapted to global health challenges by temporarily moving meetings online and finding innovative ways to stay connected and serve the community remotely. The congregation demonstrated remarkable unity and pastoral care during this period.

2023–Present

A Thriving Community Today

The Woodhaven Congregation today is a vibrant, multigenerational community of over 150 members. Regular meetings, active community outreach, expanded Bible education programmes, and a warm congregational culture make it one of the most established Jehovah's Witness congregations in the greater Edmonton area.

Built by People, Sustained by Faith

Every wall of our Kingdom Hall was built by the hands of congregation members who gave their weekends and their skills without financial compensation. Every programme we run was created by individuals who saw a need and stepped up to meet it.

The Woodhaven Congregation's history is not the story of an institution — it is the story of people. Farmers and accountants, teachers and retirees, new Canadians and long-time Albertans, all working together because they believe in something greater than themselves.

This heritage of voluntary, wholehearted service continues to define us today.
